Another week down in the city and i’m still enjoying the job. It’s difficult – I don’t understand why there aren’t any public practice accountants in regional QLD, London is swarming with them! But i’m powering through and being helped along by the fact that my office overlooks beautiful Brisbane and the river – no complaints.
This weekend Lisa, Jason and I went back up toward the Sunshine Coast, avoiding the mountains this time and opting for a more leisurely activity. First stop – Montville.
Montville is a small town on the hinterland of the Sunny Coast – so tiny that in the 2011 census the town and surrounding area had a population of just 886 – cute!
There isn’t a lot to do in the town but the little shops are sweet and Lisa and I spent ages chatting to a Scottish man in his wife’s soap shop. Everything is cruelty free which obviously makes me happy and everything smelt absolutely incredible. If I wasn’t holed up in a hostel i’d have definitely treated myself.
Our next stop was to a little strawberry picking field! I haven’t been berry picking since I was a little girl so this was a novelty in itself. We didn’t arrive until the afternoon so unfortunately most of the good strawberries were gone but that didn’t stop Lisa from over-flowing her punnet in the slightest. The cafe wasn’t amazing but the strawberries more than made up for it and I spent the following days drowning myself in them.
It’s nice to get away from the city on the weekend, especially as the weather is getting warmer and there is still so much I haven’t seen of this country – I feel like I can still call myself a traveller if I at least venture outside of Brisbane as and when I can. I’m hoping, with my new job, I’ll be able to work from their other offices in Sydney, Melbourne and Perth so that I get the opportunity to visit other areas of Australia that I haven’t seen. But i’ll give it a few more months before I try and venture any further.
