I once read an article about Cancer. The article stated that Cancer charities and Cancer research will never run out of donations because unlike many causes that so desperately need financial support, Cancer is indiscriminate. It cares not if you are rich or poor and therefore the rich will always pump their cash into finding a cure.
Am I an awful person to believe that one of the only positives to come out of the Coronavirus is its lack of discrimination? That perhaps it wouldn’t be so widely covered and so vehemently fought, perhaps our Prime Minster and our MP’s wouldn’t be so protective of our Country if it only affected the working class and the poor. Celebrities are throwing their money at resources to fight the spread and flatten the curve, our government are locking us away and supporting local businesses in an effort to protect us and I know this wouldn’t happen for a working-class disease. It doesn’t happen and It will never happen.
I might suggest that, despite the physical distancing we are forcing ourselves to practice, COVID19 is bringing the world closer together. Do you think we’ll be more compassionate to the countries that are fighting Aids after this? or the ones caught in the crossfires of war? Will we show more gratitude to our National health Service and appreciate our freedom to go to the pub or the shops without fear of imminent danger? What about our homeless? The Government are providing them with shelter – why weren’t they doing that before and will they continue after? I doubt it on the latter but i’m hopeful for it all.
