Aperitini Cocktail Recipe

Fan of an Aperol Spritz are you? Enjoy spending your Lockdown sloshing around your garden like Patsy Stone but with less beehive-hairdo and more rolled-out-of-bed-hair-bun chic? Yeah me too.

I admit, I enjoy making cocktails and looking at them more than I do drinking them. These days it only takes one and i’m asleep on the sofa, snoring, but my Mother loves a good cocktail and that always gives me an opportunity to tinker and on one sunny Sunday afternoon I wanted to make something she hadn’t tried before.

I found inspiration from Pinterest (obviously), I was going for either a gin or Aperol based drink as those are her majesty’s faves and you can find the original source to my recipe here, which differs ever so slightly from what you will find below.

This recipe serves two Martini glasses so I would double or halve as appropriate.

Brings me joy: Reading.
Relaxes me: Tea. Copious amounts.

P.s. I know my aesthetic Instagram-appropriate positioning leaves a lot to be desired.

I read this last week, sat on my thoughts for a wh I read this last week, sat on my thoughts for a while, wrote some words, forgot to save it, cursed the world.

I’ve always been kind of against reading books about abuse, I remember reading A Child Called It when I was in high school and being appalled by the amount of people who said they loved reading books like that. I don’t find much enjoyment from books that are too harrowing so I tend to steer clear, but I trust @english_prose recommendations and thought I’d give this one a go.

My Dark Vanessa was very easily absorbed and is too complicated to write a review on Instagram, it deserves and essay really and I’m too lazy for that. As 30 year old woman (or almost 30) I was able to slip into Vanessa’s present day self just as well as I could as her 15 year old self. It’s frightening how well I understood how easy it would have been to be flattered by Strane’s attention, his words.

This book is uncomfortable, upsetting and maddening for all the right reasons. The author delves into hideous detail and explores the long term effects that Vanessa’s relationship with her teacher had on her. She’s quite unlikeable, which feels wrong to say, though none of the characters are particularly ‘nice’.

I’d recommend, if you can stomach it.
